WAYNE
NATIONAL FOREST
The Wayne National Forest is located in southeastern Ohio in the
foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. It is comprised of 230,000 acres.
There are five developed campgrounds, several other primitive picnic and
camping sites, 300 miles of trails including those designated for hiking,
horse, mountain bike, and off-road vehicles. Fishing and hunting areas
abound.

FERNWOOD
State Forest (3,023 acres in Jefferson County); Area formerly strip mined
for coal; 22 family campsites (no fee); 3 mile hiking trail (land lab);
several picnic areas; 3 shooting ranges (handicapped accessible).
GIFFORD
State Forest (320 acres in Athens County); 4 mile hiking trail; Experimental
tree seed production area.
HARRISON
State Forest (1,345 acres in Harrison County); Area formerly strip mined for
coal; family and horse camping (no fee); 24 miles bridle and hiking trails;
shooting range; fishing ponds.
HOCKING
State Forest (9,267 acres in Hocking County); Horse Campground; 40 miles
bridle trails; 9 miles hiking trails; rock climbing and rappelling area;
former fire lookout tower; state nature preserves; Hocking Hills State Park
adjacent.
MAUMEE
State Forest (3,068 acres in Fulton, Henry and Lucas counties); All-purpose
vehicle area with 5 miles trail (also snowmobile conditions permitting); 15
miles bridle trails; windbreak arboretum area.
MOHICAN-MEMORIAL
State Forest (4,498 acres in Ashland County); 24 miles hiking trails; 22
miles bridal trails; 10 "Park and Pack" camping sites (permit
required - no fee); War Memorial Shrine; State nature preserve; 7 miles
snowmobile trail (conditions permitting); Mohican State Park adjacent.
PERRY
State Forest (4,567 acres in Perry County); Area formerly strip mined for
coal; All purpose vehicle area with 16 miles trails; 8 miles bridle trails.
PIKE
